MIT Activists Mobilize To Freeze AI

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Following months of reflection and prayer led by all 31 university chaplains, MIT’s Radius activist program, an offering of MIT’s Office of Religious, Spiritual, and Ethical Life, threw in its lot with U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders and Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey. Leaders are now mobilizing progressive acolytes to stand together athwart progress and yell STOP!

“Under current government and corporate AI leadership, many of us feel discouraged or powerless. But if we take strategic action together, we have the power to bring AI under public control”, they vowed.

On October 20th, thousands of people across the country will walk out to demand a freeze on AI development. Sign up here to join socially conscious students, professors, and religious authorities from the world’s leading STEM university issuing a fatwa against making technology intelligent.

“Legislators take their constituents’ views seriously, especially when they are affiliated with a place like MIT,” organizers explained, who installed a phone booth where students can call and assure progressive politicians that they have their backs.

“Think of it as organizing a flash mob to support legislators and media figures who are already on our side,” said one volunteer, adjusting a Freeze AI button. “Today, we exercise collective action to drive technology innovators out of the state of Massachusetts. Tomorrow, after we reclaim Congress and the White House, we can drive innovators out of the country altogether!”

What better way to put an MIT education, and donor dollars, to use.
