Aided and abetted by the Dance Your Ph.D. contest hosted by Holden Thorp’s Science magazine, cash and fame are being dished out to popularize the wonky ivory tower research conducted by aspiring scientists seeking to live on the taxpayer dole.

“At times like this, don’t you wish you lived in a world where you could just ask people to pull out their phones to watch an online video explaining your Ph.D. research through interpretive dance?” ask the editors of Science.

Oh, yeah. The Beaver pines for that every day. That will surely improve the quality, reproducibility, and utility of science.

“Exploring Science Communication Through Song and Dance” is part of an ongoing cultural movement at MIT to break science away from its Enlightenment roots, opening the door to new ways of knowing and new kinds of scientists. This comes none too soon given the collapsing public trust in scientists.

As MIT’s DEI-centric admissions and faculty hiring policies continue to flood the campus with acolytes who eschew the hard sciences and engineering, flocking instead into SHASS related fields, you can expect this trend to accelerate. Because why should the Ivies be the only elite universities to destroy their own brands?
