Vicious virtue signaling at MIT

A screen shot of an email posted to an MIT dorm discussion list shortly after Charlie Kirk’s assassination made its way to the Beaver (above). While only students living in MIT’s East Campus dorm can join this list, there is no expectation of privacy. Note that the author explicitly asks her classmates to pass her pearls of wisdom along.

Give it a careful read. Marvel at the juxtaposition of bloodthirsty viciousness, casual vulgarity, and infantile emojis. Wonder at the fact that a student would feel comfortable posting something this extreme. What led her to expect accolades for her “artistic” expression and twisted virtue signaling?

This is a sign of serious mental illness, both of this individual and of MIT’s campus culture.

The East Campus dorm has long had a reputation for being an enclave of far-left druggies and perverts. They are proud of their artsy “identity” and endeavor to recruit like-minded freshmen to sustain their “queer, quirky state of mind.” The administration hoped to reform this culture when it cleared out the dorm for renovation. Thanks to the renovation team, it came roaring back.

MIT’s woke admissions office must bear some responsibility for admitting students of such character. And MIT’s woke professors, DEI apparatchiks, and leftist indoctrination programs must take responsibility for their further radicalization.

MIT President Sally Kornbluth recently wrote:

“In the context of this week’s horrifying murder of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University, these manifestations of hatred towards others for their views, beliefs or identity are even more concerning. Such corrosive incidents have become commonplace in our society, and they can invite violence. Together, we must make sure they have no place at MIT.
Belonging to the MIT community is a privilege, not a right, and it comes with the responsibility to treat each other with decency and respect.
MIT Police are investigating each of these incidents. If we can identify who is responsible, they will face the appropriate discipline process.”

We’ll see if she follows through.

This student and others like her did the world a favor by exercising their Freedom of Speech, which must be protected. Because of it the whole world now knows what kind of people they are.

The time has come for the rest of us to exercise our Freedom of Association. Choose your colleagues and employees wisely.
