With hearty Aarghs! to Byron, Shelley, Keats,
It’s time to sling some verse ’til woke retreats.
Ode on Overton Window shift
Thou valiant battered bard of righteous thought,
Thou rat of brass who feareth not censorious slime,
Thou mocking scrivener, ready to express
Sarcastic tales, more tartly than in rhyme:
What wokeish claptrap left you all agape
From Lefties, Karens, Commies, all the time,
On Twitter from the dregs of Academe?
What barking nerds are these? What beavers loth?
What pirate prank? What struggle to give jape?
What wisecrack insults? What wild burlesque?
Heard arguments are sweet, but those unheard
Must oft be sheltered from the canceler’s gale.
Undaunted by attempts to drive
Dissenting thoughts and words beyond the pale.
Fight back! Fear not! For vanguard wags will push
The ersatz boundaries of polite discourse
Back into places where plain reason doth prevail.
Through winning we will reach our goal
And drive the long march rogues from tenured perch.
Making great again STEM’s glory that once was.
O Merit fine! Fair dealing shorn of DEI!
Let men and maidens meet on level field,
Let colorblindness in all things prevail.
When free speech reigns and all may share their views
‘Tis there where proper education lies.
When old age shall this generation waste,
Clear thinking will remain to heal our woe.
The Beaver, friend to man, agrees,
“Beauty is truth, truth beauty,—that is all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.”
