MIT Faculty Founder Initiative dodges illegal sex discrimination charges

Fans of the Beaver may recall his February 2024 diatribe railing against research awards MIT granted only to female faculty.

Female Privilege: Male Professors Need Not Apply

As a result of this article, a complaint was filed with the Boston Office for Civil Rights. This complaint was ignored, much like the previous 26 complaints filed against MIT’s other race and sex discrimination practices allegedly illegal under prevailing civil rights laws.

That was then. But now we have a new sheriff in town.

What to our wondering eyes just appeared in the aftermath of President Sally Kornbluth’s strategic retreat from the DEI fever swamps? A stealth revision of MIT’s Faculty Founders Initiative website that erases all mention of it being an exclusively female conferment.

To date, $900,000 has been granted to 21 awardees, all women.

Will this systemically misandrist practice change? Will men be allowed to complete for these coveted awards on a level playing field? Or are the revisions merely a cosmetic attempt to avoid scrutiny as qui tam bounty hunters begin scouring collegiate websites for egregious civil rights violations that might enable them to file False Claims Act lawsuits?

The Beaver will be keeping an eagle eye out to see whether the next crop of awardees are as gender balanced as MIT’s undergraduate admissions.

Goose, meet gander.
