Credit where credit is due, MIT’s woke admissions office actually took its thumb off the scale in response to the SCOTUS affirmative action ruling. The Beaver is gobsmacked and has been forced to compose a mostly serious article.
As a consequence of discontinuing an opaque “holistic” admissions process that artificially advantaged Blacks, Latinos, and Native Americans while effectively penalizing Asians, MIT just reported that the racial composition of the Class of 2028 marked a dramatic departure from classes enrolled in its DEI-driven past.
Black enrollment is down 66%. Latino enrollment is down 30%. Asian enrollment is up 18%, now amounting to nearly half the entering class.
Roll out the fainting couches and let the pearl clutching begin! Like Glen Close leaping out of the bathtub, merit has reared its ugly head.
Before you think peak DEI may have passed, look a little more closely at the data. The race wars may be over, but MIT will never abandon its systemic discrimination against male applicants unless ordered to obey the law by a judge.
MIT’s official position is that it is exempt from Title IX rules that ban sex discrimination, just like all-girl colleges like Wellesley, so it is free to holistically gender-balance its undergraduate student body pursuant to its noble social engineering objectives.
From the other side of its mouth the admissions office remarkably claims that it doesn’t actually discriminate against men in favor of women. Every class magically comes out gender balanced despite the fact that, year in and year out, twice as many males apply than females.
Uh-huh. These are the same folks that used to claim that they didn’t actually discriminate against Asians in favor of Blacks, Latinos, and Native Americans. Until SCOTUS made them stop.
