Rebranding Crony Capitalism

With the public growing increasingly skeptical of apocalyptic climate alarmism, concerned about misplaced subsidies flowing to well-connected insiders, and angry over destructive net-zero policies, the MIT Sloan Sustainability Initiative needed to find a new slogan.

Move over Crony Capitalism. It’s time to make way for Climate Capitalism!

It is an article of faith among climate experts at MIT’s Sloan Business School that capitalism is the evil source of both economic growth and pollution. That’s why the clever new slogan was deemed just as powerful as “Democratic Socialism” thanks to the magical way it charms critics on both the left and right.

What matters is that we all agree that economic growth must be reversed, the human population must be reduced, and Net-Zero carbon emissions must become the overarching goal of global central economic planning.

It’s all explained in the new book Climate Capitalism: Winning the Race to Zero Emissions and Solving the Crisis of Our Age written by a former scientist who thought he could build a better world by becoming a reporter.

“Within degrowth, there are many ways of doing it,” says our intrepid activist. “Perhaps the most reasonable one is rich countries degrow — they actually shrink their economies, consume less, [to] allow for a finite carbon budget for our climate goals to be used up by developing countries to grow their economies and become richer.”

And here you thought that zero-sum thinking and central economic planning had fallen out of fashion at the world’s leading STEM university. Well, you were wrong. Some ideas just refuse to stay on the ash-heap of history.
