As taxpayer funded Big Science has grown, so has the ecosystem of parasites that feed upon it.
Listen to the howls from the hangers-on at the threat of being thrown off the gravy train when federal granting agencies cap so-called “indirect cost” handouts to the same 15% insisted upon by non-governmental agencies like the Gates Foundation and the Wellcome Trust.
“These cuts could cost as much as we are spending on our DEI programs every year!” cried MIT President Sally Kornbluth.
Last time the Beaver checked, funds were fungible. How about redirecting some of the moolah going into all those social justice activism programs into supporting working scientists instead?
Just imagine the positive impact it would have on MIT’s reputation if it announced it was cutting administrative bloat and getting out of the woke indoctrination business, redirecting that money to cover the research overhead shortfalls expected under Washington’s new funding regime.
Nah. Instead, yet another lawsuit has been filed, this time against the National Science Foundation (NSF), for following the lead of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in slashing slush subsidies.
“Be glad we look at your grant proposals at all, you ungrateful mendicants,” bellowed education secretary Linda McMahon, who recently informed Harvard that the entire university and all its affiliated scientists have been disqualified from receiving future federal research grants.
Squandering the public trust as you gorge on their tax dollars while allowing deranged masked students to parade around campus in support of murderous terrorists sure has a funny way of biting you in the keister, doesn’t it?
