As social scientists expand their power and influence at the world’s leading STEM university, administrative resources continue to pour into programs designed to mold the character of MIT’s impressionable young students, feeding the burgeoning social justice activist complex on campus.
Where nanotech, biotech, physics, and chemistry labs once reigned, today’s MIT sports everything from Diversity Laboratories designed to advance identity science to the well-financed GOV/LAB promoting faith in Big Brother to the Wellbeing Lab where therapy dogs, queer rights advocates, sex therapists, anticapitalist crusaders, and climate anxiety psychologists help anxious students make their way in the new world order.
“This is not your father’s science,” explained the director of the Indigenous Knowledge & Druid Divination Center (IKDDC). “Tomorrow’s scientists and engineers must eschew false consciousness inculcated by the so-called Enlightenment, with its overreliance on logic, reason, and experimental methods. Students must instead tap into the primordial spirit world, using the power of social construction and the fluid nature of language to flourish in alternate realities that validate their own lived experience.”
The new Wellbeing Lab on the third floor of the remodeled student center is part of a growing network of Wellbeing Spaces including the Rainbow Lounge, SPXCE, the Margaret Cheney Room, and the ever popular Gender, Culture, Women, and Sexuality BDSM Dungeon.
