“Good evening, members of the MIT community. I am Melissa Nobles, the Chancellor of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and I am here to talk to you about a very important topic: the need for equity and social justice on our campus.
As you all know, the pursuit of equity and social justice is a core value at MIT, and we are committed to creating a campus community that is inclusive, diverse, and supportive of all of our students, regardless of their gender, race, sexual orientation, or any other aspect of their identity.
However, we also recognize that we still have a long way to go. Despite our best efforts, we continue to see disparities in the experiences and outcomes of our students, particularly among those who are members of marginalized communities, such as BIPOC LGBTQ students.
To address this issue, I am announcing a new initiative that I believe will help us to achieve greater equity and social justice on our campus. Starting next semester, all heterosexual white male students at MIT will be required to do the homework assignments of BIPOC LGBTQ students in order to help bridge the gaps that exist between these communities.
I know that this may sound like a controversial idea, but I believe that it is a necessary step in order to create a more equitable and just campus community. By doing the homework of BIPOC LGBTQ students, heterosexual white male students will gain a greater understanding of the challenges and obstacles that these students face, and will be better able to support and advocate for them.
I also believe that this initiative will help to create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment for all of our students. By working together and sharing the workload, we can help to foster greater understanding and respect among our diverse student body.
I understand that this initiative may not be popular with everyone, and I encourage all members of our community to share their thoughts and concerns with me and with our DEI experts. But I believe that this is a necessary step in our pursuit of equity and social justice, and I hope that you will join me in supporting this important initiative.
Thank you.”
